Elder Thomas E. Hammonds was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas. He graduated high school at St. Peters Clavers Academy in San Antonio Texas. He matriculated at Compton Junior College, Los Angeles City and Metropolitan Business Colleges.

He was saved in Los Angeles, California in 1954, and received the baptism of Holy Ghost, according to Acts 2:4, on December 24, 1956. He accepted his call to the Ministry on December 24, 1969. In 1972, he was assigned his first pastoral at The Temple of the Lord Church of God in Christ in Delano, California.

In 1974, he became Pastor to the Friendly Church of God in Christ. Under his leadership the church has grown from a little church on the corner to flourishing church of the community. Out of his ministry many souls have been saved and many preachers and pastors have been made. Because of his humanitarian spirit, hungry souls have been fed and the needs of the homeless have been met.

In Los Angeles and Bakersfield California, he served as a Youth Leader and Sunday School Superintendent. In the California Valley Jurisdiction, he served as Financial Secretary. In the Southern California First Jurisdiction, he is an Administrative Assistant to Bishop Charles Blake. He served as Superintendent in the San Diego District #1 and San Diego Region. Pastor Hammonds is also the Chairman of the Finance Board and a member of the Executive Board.

Career Objective:

To be the preacher and Pastor that God desires of me. To be a man whom others can say, "That he walked with God;" Chairman of General Council of Pastors' and Elders.

Personal Assessment:

The ability to lead a people which is demonstrated by pastoring for over 26 years, and exhibited while serving on committees which require leadership skills and the ability to follow leadership.

Accomplishments while serving in the General Council of Pastor's and Elders:

  • Chairman, Commission of Finance 1989 - 1992
  • Member of the Advisory Board 1990 - 1992
  • 2nd Vice-Chairman 1992 - 1996
  • 1st Vice-Chairman 1996 - 1999
  • Chairman 1999 - 2000

Other Accomplishments:

  • Pastor of the Friendly Church of God in Christ for 26 years.
  • President/CEO and founder of the Friendly Christian Academy Christian School, Oceanside California.
  • Member of the Northern San Diego County African American Support Dialogue Group. Trustee, of the National Church of God in Christ, for over 12 years.
  • Presently serving for over 14 years as a member of the General Assembly Executive Board.
  • 1991 -1997 Served as the Chairman for the Post-Ordination Development and Placement Committee.
  • 1990 - 1991 Chairman of the Department of Mistrial Affairs and Appointments, of Southern California First Jurisdiction.
  • Member of the Executive Board of Southern California First Jurisdiction.
  • Currently serving for 11 years as the Administrative Assistant to Bishop Charles E. Blake, Jurisdictional prelate of Southern California First Jurisdiction.
  • Member of the Finance Board of the Southern California, First Jurisdiction for over 20 years.
  • Chairman of the Finance Board of the Southern California, First Jurisdiction for over 10 years.
  • Financial Secretary for California Valley Jurisdiction for l year.
  • Retired Collection Division Manager with the Internal Revenue Service.
  • Retired from government, 29 years of service.
  • Married for 47 years to Mrs. Novella Hammonds.
  • Devoted father of four.

Self-assessment as a worker:

A leader must be accountable to God, and to those whom God has placed over him. A leader is trustworthy, and a good steward and custodian of those possessions entrusted to him by God. A good leader must have also been a good follower.
