Sister
Norvella Green Hammonds was born in Taylor Texas and raised in San
Antonio, Texas. She is a 1951 graduate of Phyllis Wheatly High School of
San Antonio, Texas. She was nurtured in the ways of the Lord by her
mother Mrs. Leola Seay. She accepted the Lord at the age of fifteen and
has endeavored to be faithful and to love the Lord with all her heart.
She served in Los Angeles as an Usher, Choir Member, Home and Foreign Mission Treasure, Secretary of the Y.W.C, C., and Youth Coworker at the Azusa Church of God in Christ. At the St. Paul Church of God in Christ she served as the President of the Sunshine Band, which is especially dear to her. The Sunshine Band was second to none. She also served as Announcement Clerk and she cared for the Senior Citizens. In addition, she found time to matriculate at Bakersfield School of Nursing. At the Friendly Church of God in Christ she has served on the Nurse's Unit, President of the Y.W.C.C., Prayer and Bible Band, Sunshine Band, the Women's Prayer Fellowship, and on the Deaconess Board. Yes, Mother Hammonds has even served as a janitor and yard person so that the house of God and it's surroundings were beautiful. Sister Hammonds served as Chairperson of the Department of Women, currently she is Supervisor for the Women's Department which encompasses all phases of the Women's Auxiliaries. In the San Diego District, First Lady Hammonds served as president of the Minister's Wives. She walks fervently beside her husband assisting him in all his endeavors. Pastor and First Lady Hammonds are proud parents of three sons, one daughter and two granddaughters. Pastor and First Lady Hammonds remain a source of great strength and inspiration and is a positive influence for many. They exemplify the gift of wisdom in working with people inside and outside of the church. Their dedication and unselfish service reflect the blessed hope of Jesus Christ for the church.
